Our Philisophy

Millbrook Free Range Co. is the paddock to plate enterprise of David & Kara Trigg.  

Our produce is 'Free to Roam on pasture', on our farm, know as 'Down Below',

Located in the Central Highlands of Victoria at Millbrook, and surrounded by rich volcanic soil, and lush pasture.

It all started when David & Kara relocated 'Loz' a Berkshire sow, and 'Henry' a Berkshire boar to their farm with the intial idea of using the pigs and their progeny to naturally fertilize and rehabilitate the soil, with the idea of providing a 'few good Christmas hams', for family and friends.  'Down Below' is now home to 20 Breeding Sows, which produce 2 litters of piglets each year, which are all born, and grown out, in a natural 'Free Range' environment. 'Down Below', now grows some seriously beautiful pasture, which has been naturally fertilized from Loz, Henry and their prodgeny ... no chemicals, no synthetic fertilizers and natural weed control!!

Commonly asked ... Why Black Pigs .... because Black Pigs, or Heritage Berkshire Pigs, have thick black hair to cope with living in a natural outdoor environment, Black hair protects the pig from the sun and sunburn, and keeps them warm in winter ... perfect for outdoor living

The aim of Millbrook Free Range Co is to re-educate people on how slow growing, naturally raised produce, should and does taste.

FREE RANGE MEANS ANIMALS ARE FREE TO EXPRESS NATURAL BEHAVIOURS, THEY ARE KEPT PERMANENTLY OUTDOORS FOR THEIR ENTIRE LIFE, WITH SHELTER PROVIDED, AND PROTECTION FROM PREDATORS.

OUR AIM

To educate our customers on eating ‘nose to tail’, a sustainable way of eating the entire meat source, with very little waste.  

Commonly customers ask for the prime cuts; scotch fillet, rump, lamb cutlets, pork belly but neglect to look at all the delicious cuts of an animal, purely because they do not know how to cook them.  We aim to educate our customers on how to make delicious recipes from the lesser known cuts.

We want our customers to get the satisfaction out of entertaining and feeding people as we do, by providing our customers with beautiful, nutritious, quality meat, that tastes great, and is sourced from the Millbrook Free Range Co.
